Stitchy Saturday: Chevron Seed Stitch

Hello Friends,

Here is the second blog post of the new "Stitchy Saturday" feature. This week I knitted the Chevron Seed Stitch. I really love how this one turns out once you knit all four rows, you can see the zig zags emerging. I knitted this one up pretty quickly and it was fun to knit. I knitted 16 stitches across because this one calls for multiples of 8 stitches and I want to get that small square. It turned out to be 4 inches by 4 inches. I love the way this stitch turned out and was inspired to use it to make a hat someday it would look great. I may not have mentioned this is my last post, but I plan to connect the square to make something when I have made enogh squares such as a dishtowel, or a blanket.

What stitch:

This week I tried the Chevron Seed stitch.

Pattern:
Cast on multiples of 8
Row 1 - * P1,K3,P1,K3*
Row 2 - * K1,P5,K1,P1 *
Row 3 - * K2,P1,K3,P1,K1*
Row 4 - * P2,K1,P1,K1,P3*

What I thought:
I love the way this stitch turned out! The zig zag look is very fun and would decorate any hat, scarf, blanket. I was thinking while I was knitting it that you can make the zig zagging stitches a different color from the rest of the knitting so it stands out even more. I might experiment with that.

Knitter level:
Beginner: It required some more concentration. I did this one without listening to music or any other distractions so I could remember which row I was on and what part of the row since it is a repeated pattern on each row. The stitch only requires knitting and purling so it is not too difficult for a beginner knitter to tackle it.

Yarn Along Wednesday: Front of the Sweater and Reading Amy Shumer's Book

Hello Friends,

I haven't participated in the Yarn Along Wednesday for a couple of weeks now, so I thought I would post today. I like to post when I have new things to show but it is also nice to keep consistent and I love doing these Yarn Along posts. When I think of Wednesday now, I associate it with Ginny's Yarn Along link up. I posted a blog entry about finishing the back piece of the sweater on Monday this week, and since that time, I have started knitting the front piece of the sweater. I am still working on reading Amy Shumer's book which is hilarious as one would guess. I love her style of writing because I feel like she writes exactly how she speaks so you feel like she is speaking to you. I loved her in the movie Trainwreck and have been a fan ever since. I see some similarities from the movie in her autobiography, she probably used some experiences from her own life for the movie. Below is a photo of the knitting I have done so far for the front piece of the sweater along with the book The Girl with The Back Tattoo by Amy Shumer.

Front piece of sweater and the book  I am reading this week
Here is an updated photo of my plants. Two of the African Violets are thriving but one is droopy and has no flowers. I gave them all Africa Violet food this afternoon so I am hoping this helps them. The aloe plant to the left was a gift from my friend and it is doing very well, the two succulents are still doing well. The rhoeo plant is doing okay but it is not as tall as when I got it. It is a tropical plant so it is probably having a hard time with the lack of light on the windowsill. I have a bamboo plant on its own in the kitchen and it is doing very well too. I read an article in the Toronto Star about how people in Toronto have a lot of plants now and they treat them as their babies because they can't have pets in their building(like us), and don't have children yet.. I can relate.

Thank you so much for visiting my blog and I hope you enjoy the rest of the week! we are halfway there now!

Knitting my First Sweater: Back Piece Finished

Hello Friends,

Happy Family Day to those who live in Canada! I have finished the black piece of the 3TimesChic sweater I found on Knitty.com. This pattern was rated "tangy" on the website, which is intermediate because it is one level above "mellow" which are patterns for beginners on the website. The pattern appealed to me because of the simple design and I like the V-neck neckline and the length of the sweater.
I enjoyed knitting the piece and I found the pattern very easy to follow. I like the pattern and I like how the stripes look down the sweater where the purl stitches were in the pattern in between knit stitches.  It was a repetitive pattern and the pattern called for knitting 24 inches before beginning to bind off. The next step is to knit the front piece which is identical to the back piece except that once I am finished the armhole shaping, I will begin working on the neck shaping. Once I finished this piece I was excited to see the shape and it is beginning to look like a sweater. I am looking forward to starting the front piece and seeing more of the sweater coming together.

Stitchy Saturday: Irish Moss Stitch

Hello Friends,

I am starting a new feature called "Stitchy Saturday". I will be trying a new stitch every Saturday and discuss how it went, and its difficulty, if I liked it, would I try it again and what I would knit with it. I have wanted to try more stitches for awhile now and I tried to encourage myself through my side panel stitch spot but although it does inspire me to try the stitches, I never get around to it. Hope you like the feature and let me know in the comments below what you think of the stitches, how they turned out or if you have made things with the stitch before.

What stitch:

This week I tried the Irish Moss stitch.

Pattern:
Cast on multiples of 2
Row 1 - * K 1, P 1 *
Row 2 - * K 1, P 1 *
Row 3 - * P 1, K 1 *
Row 4 - * P 1, K 1 *

What I thought:
This stitch appeals to me with its texture and pattern.  I love the look of this stitch and I would use it for scarves, hats, blankets. This stitch would be perfect for a lot of projects. The stitch creates a stronger texture and it is also softer because of ball like texture that the pattern creates.

Knitter level:
Beginner: It was very easy to follow along with its simple and repetitive pattern and it would be great for beginner knitters to try something new.

Hearts Everywhere and Projects on the Go!

Hello Friends,

I have been working on finishing up these knitted hearts today to make pouches for my family and my boyfriend. I love seeing all of the hearts on my desk, but I have to start sewing them together to make the pouches. I have also been working on the embroidery of the words that I will be sewing onto the hearts this takes a lot of time too. I will share the heart pouches with you on Valentine's Day once I have given them out as gifts.

My desk right now, getting to work on these gifts for Valentine's day!

I also wanted to share with you that I am finished knitting the first part of the back piece of my sweater. It is 14" long and then I will be moving onto the next part of the pattern which is the armhole shaping and requests that you start to decrease the piece every other row.

The back piece of the sweater, next: armhole shaping!

I hope that you are also moving along with your projects, thank you so much for visiting! Have a great weekend!

Knitted Valentine Heart Pouch

Hello Friends,

With Valentine's Day just around the corner I wanted to share this heart pouch I knitted that is very easy to make and perfect to give as gifts on Valentines' Day.

How to make your own:

Materials needed (what I used):

  • I used 6mm US 10 needles
  • Craft Smart Yarn. red color (tip: you can make the hearts bigger by using larger yarn and needles)
  • darning needle
  • white felt
  • sewing needle
  • black and white thread,
  • To give as a gift: small chocolates, candies, and/or small gifts to put inside
  • Optional: small bags to put the chocolates, Candies, and or small gifts inside

Steps to make the pouch:
1. First I knitted two hearts separately following the pattern for heart coasters at MollieMakes.
2. Then I sewed them together by weaving yarn on both sides all the way from the bottom of the heart to the middle of the heart humps so candy and chocolate wouldn't fall out.
3. Then I added the "BE MINE" label by using white felt and using black thread to sew the letters. First I drew dots where I would connect the letters with the thread so it was easier when I was sewing to have a plan.
4. When I was done sewing on the letters to the white felt, I used white thread to sew on the label to the knitted heart. I realized this would be easier to do before sewing the two hearts together.

You can buy little Valentine bags like the one above at the dollar store or Michael's and then put some small goodies inside. I will be putting cinnamon hearts in the bags and chocolates separately in the pouch. I hope you liked this post, let me know in a comment below if you will be making something for Valentine's Day for loved ones this year.

Yarn Along Wednesday Infinity Scarf

Hello Friends,

I am sorry for the late post I just got back from visiting with my family after celebrations and catching up. How are you all doing? I am very happy because my sister just got engaged on Tuesday and I was able to be there to help with the preparations and see her right after she got proposed to by her wonderful boyfriend. I am so happy for them and I am looking forward to helping them with their wedding plans. We set out the cute napkins below and some decorations to have dinner and cake after they got engaged. It was so nice that our whole family could be there for their special day!

The table setting. We bought the napkins and table cloth from Party City and the heart decor and poof from Michael's

I also got to see these cuties while visiting my parents. I miss them!

Reading Amy Shumer's book and knitting an infinity scarf!
I am knitting an infinity scarf and started reading Amy Shumer's book 'The Girl with the Back Tattoo'. I am excited to read this I think she is hilarious and I have loved the movies she has acted in. I am also knitting the back piece of the sweater it is steadily increasing in size and I will share a photo of the back piece once it is finished and some information on the process soon.

Thank you so much for visiting my blog and I hope you have a great rest of the week!
