The New Year is approaching!

Hello friends,

How is everyone doing? I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season! This Christmas was so busy! I managed to finish my boyfriend Liam’s scarf but I did not finish my mom’s socks but we agreed that they would be for her birthday in February instead.   I cannot believe how close to the New Year it is! It is almost 2015!
I wanted to review my resolutions for this year’s knitting and then set some new resolutions for this year.  I think making resolutions helped me to keep focused on what I wanted to accomplish.

2014 Resolutions update:

1. Knit a sweater: I wanted to accomplish this goal this year but I never started it which I think is probably the most important to completing a sweater is just beginning the project.  This year I will start to knit a sweater bit by bit and then finish it by the end of the year.

2. Knit socks: This year I did knit my first pair of socks! I wear them around the house and they are pretty cozy just a bit big but I make do.  You can see my post about knitting the socks by clicking on this link >>>First pair of socks!
3. Knit another pair of mittens: I did not get around to knitting another pair of mittens this year sadly.  I saw a cute pattern at the end of last year that I thought I might want to try.

4. Try following a pattern:  I knitted a basketweave baby blanket for my little cousin this year following the "Basketweave baby blanket" pattern.  You can see the post and the finished blanket by clicking on this link >>>> Basketweave Baby Blanket Pattern

5. Try fair isle: I did try my hand at switching colors and then knitting a giant heart with a gray background and watching fair isle knitting videos but I never completed a project using fair isle.

6. Knit different stitches:  I knitted the Bamboo Stitch, and the Star Stitch this year! click on the links to visit my entries about the stitches.

2015  Resolutions !

1. knit a sweater
2.  learn more stitches: I love learning new stitches it is  a lot of fun and challenges me to try new ways of knitting projects.
3. knit family and friends Christmas gifts this year: I really want to knit my family and friends Christmas gifts in 2015 so I better start now :P
4. knit mittens again

What are your New Years Resolutions in your craft this year?

Take care! thank you for visiting! :)

Knitting Christmas Gifts

Hello Friends,

I am back from exams! it is such a busy time of the year.  I really missed posting on the blog and I also really missed knitting while I was studying! I finished my exams early last week and I have been working pretty much full time with very little time to knit or post on here but tonight I have some time to catch up.  I am currently knitting up my boyfriend's Christmas present which is a black scarf to match the black hat I knitted him last year! he has been wearing the hat I knitted him a lot and I even end up borrowing it quite often when I am cold and without my own :P it has come in quite handy for both of us!
Here's how it looks so far: the yarn I am using for the scarf is Lion Brand: Thick and Quick Wool ease. Color black.

Scarf progress

I have also started knitting the socks for my mom using a very nice mustard color wool.  I am following very pink knits pattern. I downloaded it from her website.  It is coming in handy again while I am knitting I can watch the videos she posted along with the pattern.
Here is a photo of them so far:  I am using Loops & Threads: 1st Kiss. Gold color.

Sock progress

I am almost done my Christmas shopping I have bought so much for family and my boyfriend Liam.  I love to spoil them at this time of the year! It is fun to shop for others and to think of how they might enjoy what you buy for them.  'Tis the season!

I just bought Pentatonix’s Christmas album tonight called “That’s Christmas to Me” and I have had their hit song “that’s Christmas to me” in my head all night.  It is such a beautiful song and I cannot wait to listen to all the songs on the album!  They have such a lovely sound when they sing together.  They even have a very nice version of “let it go” from Frozen.

I hope you are all enjoy the holiday season!  Thank you for visiting J

Friday Favorites: November 21st

Hello Friends,

I hope you are all doing well and working on finishing up all those Holiday gifts.  I have a couple projects on the go that I need to get knitted up for Christmas with so little time! I am also approaching finals and studying and trying to complete assignments that are due in the next two weeks.  It is definitely the busiest time of the year.  Well I have taken some time out however to bring to you some of my favorites this week when I did have a spare moment to browse Pinterest (which I always do!).  Hope you like them!

1. Hedgehog mittens! these are so adorable I would probably be spending more time playing with them like puppets :)

2.  Crochet cat bed! I think that my two cats would love hanging out in this crocheted cat bed! I have one cat named Moo that loves crawling into things and under blankets he would LOVE this.

 3.   I love the idea of knitting a blanket with only ten stitches at a time.  This pattern by Frankie Brown on Ravelry shows us how we can knit a zigzag blanket by only knitting ten stitches at a time! and it's a free pattern download! :)

4.  I just love the look of these cozy crocheted slippers from the blog 2 Create in color.  They would be so nice to wear around the house!  visit the blog for a photo tutorial and pattern :)

5.   I like the idea of these knitted boot toppers from Fitzbirch crafts.  I think that would look so cute and keep those legs warmer in the cold winter months.

6. Christmas tree ornaments with the pattern on Ravelry.  These look fun and quick to knit up to decorate the Christmas tree!

Knitted First Pair of Socks!

Hello Friends,

I am so excited to announce that I have finished the magic loop socks that I have been working on for quite some time now!  I used Very Pink Knits video tutorial to knit them using my magic loop needles.  I will definitely be buying the pattern because I love knitting socks on magic loop! I will be starting some socks for my mom shortly and I feel good now that I have finished one pair to move on to a second pair as a gift. Below are a couple photos of how the socks turned out :)

The next socks I will be knitting are for my mom and I will be knitting a longer cuff of course.  The first pair were practice and focused on learning the more important aspects of knitting socks like turning the heel.  I highly recommend Staci’s videos from Very Pink Knits if you want to learn to knit the socks too because her instructions are very clear.   The socks are so warm and I am wearing them around the house already! it was perfect timing to finish them because it’s colder now and my feet are constantly freezing.

Thank you so much for visiting and I hope you have a great day :)

Hello November: Knitting Goals and Blog Updates

Hello Friends,

We are now entering the month of November which brings us closer to the holiday season.  We are getting closer to the time when we begin making plans for Christmas gifts if you celebrate or preparing to bundle up to protect against the cold.  I have posted a countdown to Christmas widget on the sidebar so it might be helpful to keep track of little projects on the go.  Hope you find that useful.  I have been working on finishing the practice socks they are nearing the end now I just have to finish the toes of the second sock.  When I am done these socks I will get started on knitting a few pairs for family.

Almost done the socks!

Some knitting goals for November are:

  1.  Finish the pair of socks
  2. begin knitting socks for my mom
  3. continue knitting the scarf for Liam
  4. knit a new stitch
  5. post more favorites
I will be posting my goals at the start of every month for the month and at the end of the month about the progress I made towards the goals.  I used to love to do this on a website called 43 Things that is no longer running because they cancelled the site.  RIP 43 things you were great for the goal creaters like me to keep me posting and updating about my goals.  I will do it here instead.

Some of my personal goals are:
  1. get more organized
  2. go to the gym 1-2 times each week
  3. finish reading two books
  4. get most of my Christmas shopping done
  5. study ahead of time for final exams for school
I am looking forward to this month.  I have in more recent years loved November because it is a time after Halloween to relax and before Christmas to get ready for the Holidays.  I also like to begin thinking about Christmas gifts to knit at this time and about the upcoming season and things I would like to do.

What are your goals this November?

Thank you for visiting!

Happy Halloween!

Hello Friends,

I hope you all had a wonderful Halloween and enjoyed yourselves however you decided to celebrate!  This year I started off the Halloween festivities with decorating some pumpkins with gauze.  This was an idea I saw on Lauren Conrad’s Instagram and loved the idea so much for its simplicity and for how adorable it is.

I made some of my own by buying pumpkins at a local farm, buying gauze for $3 from Target and wrapping it around the pumpkins.  It is really cute in Lauren's photo to use googly eyes but I didn't have any so I drew them instead.

I got dressed up as a fairy and went out with some friends of mine.  We had a great time! to make the costume: I bought the dress at Walmart for $3.00, then my sister had the fairy wings from a past year, I bought the flower crown for $11 from Claires, and the blue streak clips from the Spirit of Halloween for $2.00.  I used silver sparkly tights that I had already, and black flats. The whole costume cost me: $16.00! I was pretty happy as a student to put a costume together without breaking the bank.

Me as a fairy for Halloween

I hope you all enjoy your weekend!
