Finished Knitting Patons Spiral Socks and Reading On

Hello Friends,

I hope you are doing well. I finished knitting the Patons spiral socks using the spiral socks pattern by Patons found on Ravelry. I love the look of the socks and the Patons Kroy sock yarn in the colorway of coastal stripes. The self- striping yarn looks great and it is so fun to knit with to see what pattern emerges as I knit on.

They do not have a heel in the pattern, but you can always add a heel if you prefer to have the heel. Without a heel, they look like my socks below straight swirly socks that you can pull on in any direction.

The two socks do not match exactly due to the self-striping yarn which makes them look so fun and unique.

The pattern creates zig-zag stripes up close that you can see them when you pull the socks tight. It also makes it easier to see if you are on track with the pattern and doing it correctly by checking to see that they have equal length of stitches until the next switch every 5 rows.

I will be knitting a turkey wine bottle topper soon as a gift for my fiance's mom. She received the bunny wine bottle topper last Easter from me, loved it, and wanted me to make another one for Thanksgiving. So I will be working on either finding a pattern or developing my own pattern for that soon and will be sharing the progress. I bought some small balls of Bernat cotton yarn on my last trip to Michaels and will be using them to knit the Turkey.

I have been reading the Miracle Equation by Hal Elrod, and so far it seems so much like reading The Secret. He talks about having unwavering faith and applying extraordinary effort in everything you do and these two combined will bring you success. My loan for this e-book is up at the library now so I will hopefully get it back soon. In the meantime I will be reading The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg which I borrowed from my sister. I am excited to read this book because lately I have been working on cultivating some positive daily habits to help me to be my best self and to accomplish my goals. I finished reading The Wedding Date by Jasmine Guillory. This book was so sweet and fun and I loved the characters. I really want to read more from Jasmine Guillory I love her writing style and her attention to the little things and creating characters that you are routing for. I am also currently listening to the audio book of Girl, Stop Apologizing by Rachel Hollis. It is so empowering and motivating to listen to. Rachel is very passionate about her work and really helps you want to be  your best and go for your dreams.

Spiral Socks Knitted, Sewing Sweater Seams, and Reading On

Hello Friends,

I hope you are doing well. It was the first day back at school for many yesterday, I hope that if you have children, they had a good first day! or if you are returning yourself, hope you had a good day. I will be starting my courses next week on September 12th, and only have one course I have to drive to the college for in-class sessions, and the rest are online. I am looking forward to starting up with the next batch of courses to finish the certificate later this year.I have been watching the news on hurricane Irma, I hope that if you live in the areas that the storm will hit that you stay safe!

Knitting:
I finished knitting the Patons Spiral socks and they look great. I can put them away now for Christmas to give to my mom as a gift. I love knitting socks, they are such a small project, easy to pick up and bring with me to watch television, or as you saw this summer, I brought them camping and to Montreal to knit while away on vacation.

I loved this pattern, it was a simple one and easy to remember and kitting in the same pattern for 13 inches. You can see the notes on Ravelry here. I am thinking of using this pattern again in the future, maybe for another Christmas gift or make a pair for myself at some point.

The socks laid out flat do not look as much like socks but more like stockings. I think it is so amazing that when you put them on, they fit your feet so perfectly. I like that about these tube socks, that they are so comfortable.

I will be pulling the sweater seam out today so I can re-do it and I have been working on that today too. I did some more research and I think sewing the sleeve first then going down the side of the sweater is what I will do this time for the whole sleeve is sewn in half instead of knitting side, then up the sleeve because it was tight and uneven that way. In the photo below the right side is not sewn yet I just placed it like this for the photo to show how it will look once the seams are sewn.

Reading:
I finished reading Into the Water this weekend. I loved the book, it was intriguing and kept moving a long and kept me interested and reading on. It got mixed reviews, and one thing I have to agree with it that at the beginning of the book you are introduced to a lot of characters and it is sometimes hard to remember who is who. I had to go back a couple of times to refresh my memory. Once I knew who the characters were and jumped back a couple of times, it was so good and the character development was so amazing. I love how Paula Hawkins adds so much darkness and mystery to her characters and she touches on some topics which are dark and show how evil some people can be. I think she handles these topics well and captures the emotions of each character wonderfully. I would definitely recommend Into the Water by Paula Hawkins, and I am looking forward to reading books she writes in the future.

I am currently reading Love the Wine You're With by Kim Gruenenfelder. So far I am in the early section of the book, learning about the characters and I will learn more about the characters as I read on and as they come together to create their business. I think the characters so far are trying to find themselves and are in negative situations at work and in love, and I am looking forward to seeing the changes they make as I read on. I also started reading the Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo. I will try to finish this book this week so I can begin applying the steps I learn. I will probably write a post this month on the topic to share what I learned and how it changes my outlook on tidying and keeping organized.

Socks off the Needles and a New Book to Read

Hello Friends,

I hope you are doing well. I have had a great long weekend, it was Victoria Day on Monday so it gave us an extra day off on the weekend. I saw some friends on Sunday and did some Spring Shopping, and on Monday I caught up on my knitting and did some studying for my courses.  I was really busy with my online accounting course yesterday, writing an assignment so I was not able to write a blog post on my usual Tuesday sadly. But I am here today! :)

I finished knitting the socks today that I have been working on, and I am so happy that they are finally off the needles, I loved following the basic socks pattern on the Bernat Sox label. I would definitely buy this yarn again and follow the pattern provided.

Bernat Basic Socks, Bernat Sox fine yarn using 2.75 mm needles

I put them on today and they are so cozy!
I am still working on the sleeve for the 3timesChic sweater. It is coming along well. I am ust knitting in the pattern now because I am finished doing the increasing.

I am almost finished the Nest and The Little Book of Hygge. I should be finished by next week. Once I am done, I am excited to read this book called "Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy" by Helen Fielding.  I saw all the Bridget Jone's movies, but I have never read the books. I am enjoying my green tea right now in one of my favorite mugs, and now I am off to see what you are all working on today!

What are you working on and reading this week?

A Day spent Knitting, Reading and Blogging

Hello Friends,

I hope that you are having a good day and enjoying these final days of October. Today I was spending time knitting my second sock with Charisma Heather yarn by Loops & Threads as a Christmas gift to my mom. She liked the socks I knit her last year so I am making her another pair this time in the denim color she liked. My sister also requested a pair for Christmas so I will be busy! I love this time of the year, Halloween is soon approaching with the thoughts of my favorite holiday Christmas coming in a couple of months.

I started reading a book called Zen and the Art of Knitting by Bernadette Murphy which I am really enjoying so far. I thought I would share this book because it discusses knitting as an art form, the benefits of knitting, why people knit, and shares stories about people knitting who the author has interviewed. I am excited to read more of the book, I started reading it last night and I was reading more today. Here is my cat trying to get my yarn while I take a photo!

I have been on Instagram more often now posting photos and following other people and liking their photos. I am really happy having new followers and being able to see other people's projects which they knitted or crocheted. It truly is a wonderful community and I am proud to be a part of it. Hello!

I am back from celebrating Christmas with my family. I have just spent a couple of days at home relaxing and eating way too much chocolate. It has been wonderful! I wanted to share photos with you of the gifts I knitted this year for my mom, dad, and sister. I am already thinking of what I will be knitting for next year! it was so nice to be able to give everyone something knitted from "Needles and Wool".

First up are socks for my mom...

Then gave my sister a knitted cowl...

I gave my dad a knitted hat....

The hat was also wrapped with a bow, but I took the photo after he opened it.

I hope that if you were also celebrating with family you had a wonderful Christmas.

Knitting Socks for Mother's Day

Hello Friends,

Yesterday was my first day off since I finished exams at school and completing my first year at University.  I am so happy to be done for the summer break. Now I just have one more year to go and I am done! Yesterday I worked on knitting my sock and I will knit more again today.  I have wanted to post and visit other blogs so much while I was in school but I needed to focus on my studies and my co-op.  I am so happy to be knitting and blogging again!
The socks are going to be a gift for my mom for Mother’s Day, so I hope I can get them done by then.  I am using the VeryPink Knits video on YouTube again to help me knit them.  It is so helpful to follow the steps along with the video, and I recommend if you are just starting to knit socks for the first time to look at Danielle's videos to learn how to knit socks with magic loop needles. Here is a photo of the progress so far I am just at the point where I am turning the heel:

The inside of the sock, look at the turning of the heel

The back of the sock and turning of the heel

I knitted alot yesterday while watching Teen Mom OG. That show is so addicting! I am glad they came back with another season of the old cast members to see how they are doing and get updates.  They were teen moms and had their babies when they were sixteen and it shows their struggles and accomplishments through it all.

I hope you all are doing well and I am looking forward to checking in to see all of your blogs and catch up!
Thank you all for visiting my blog again.

Take care,

Knitted First Pair of Socks!

Hello Friends,

I am so excited to announce that I have finished the magic loop socks that I have been working on for quite some time now!  I used Very Pink Knits video tutorial to knit them using my magic loop needles.  I will definitely be buying the pattern because I love knitting socks on magic loop! I will be starting some socks for my mom shortly and I feel good now that I have finished one pair to move on to a second pair as a gift. Below are a couple photos of how the socks turned out :)

The next socks I will be knitting are for my mom and I will be knitting a longer cuff of course.  The first pair were practice and focused on learning the more important aspects of knitting socks like turning the heel.  I highly recommend Staci’s videos from Very Pink Knits if you want to learn to knit the socks too because her instructions are very clear.   The socks are so warm and I am wearing them around the house already! it was perfect timing to finish them because it’s colder now and my feet are constantly freezing.

Thank you so much for visiting and I hope you have a great day :)
