Upsetting times

Hello Friends,

I hope you are doing well. This week has been a tough week with learning more about the murder of the George Floyd by a cop in Minneapolis, Minnesota. There have been so many protests and things have gotten so bad. I really like how George's brother stood up in front of the crowd and told them to be peaceful and that they shouldn't be violent and destroying things. I really feel sad for his family, it would be such a difficult loss and tough time. I have been really thinking about the black community a lot this week and how I can help this situation in the future. I know we can make more positive change, so this doesn't happen again. I really hope that all that occurred recently in Minneapolis really starts to make a change in the whole world. We can't stand for this racism to happen. I really liked that yesterday was #blackouttuesday on Instagram and across many platforms of social media. There were millions of people posting a black box for the day to make a statement about standing together in the face of all of this. I posted my box and felt so united with my other fellow knitters as we posted the black box instead of our knitting projects. That could wait another day.

In less important news, I finished the first sock using the pattern Sunshine on My Feet by The Kitchen Sink Shop. I found the pattern on Ravelry. It is a fun and quick knit and perfect if you want to do other things like watch videos while you knit. I used double pointed needles in the size US 3, 3.25 mm. I used Patons Kroy sock yarn in the colorway of tourmaline stripes.

As I mentioned on Sunday's post, I have finished reading The Testaments by Margaret Atwood and now I have continued reading Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert.  It has made me think about being more creative and taking on new challenges. I have been enjoying Average is the New Awesome: A Manifesto for the Rest of Us by Samantha Matt. It makes you see being average in a new light.

Joining along with Frontier Dreams for Crafting On ,As Kat Knits for Unraveled Wednesday, and over at Small Things with Ginny for her monthly Yarn Along.

Let us hope that what is happening in the world right now is the catalyst for some positive change for the future of generations to come. Thank you for visiting my blog today and hope that you and your family are staying safe and healthy during these uncertain and heartbreaking times.

  1. It is definitely scary and worrying times at the moment. It is good to have some knitting to help us stay calm. Big Magic looks interesting. I will have to see if my library has it (when they reopen!)

  2. Your sock looks great. The news is so sad and difficult but I feel the need to bear witness to the bravery of peaceful protesters.

  3. I like the idea of a quick knit sock. I imagine it leapt from the needles as you listened to the news. I admired how his brother stood up and asked for peace rather than violence. A really tough time for the family. A creative book sounds interesting. I'll keep my eye out for it.
