Knitting,Reading, and Blogmas This Year!

Hello Friends,

I hope you are doing well. I have made quite a bit of progress on the scarf that I knit with the Juniper Moon Farms yarn. I have been enjoying working with this light, soft yarn and I like the self striping that is appearing in the scarf as I knit on. I am looking forward to wearing this scarf this winter. It is a skinnier scarf as I knit on I realized this more, but I think I will like it because I have a lot of bulkier scarfs and knitted items so it will be something lighter for days that aren't too cold.

I have really been enjoying reading Girl, Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis. It is a fun and inspirational read. I find it interesting that she got her start from a blog and started a media company. I am almost finished this book, it is a real page-turner for me. I took the photo below last Saturday morning. It is a favorite routine of mine on the weekend to make a coffee, then sit down for an hour or more and read, then knit and plan for the day. I like to write goals down in the notebook and love the cover that says:"Do more of what makes you awesome". This inspires me to think about what I could do to improve myself and work on my goals each day.

Also I would like to announce that ...

I will be taking part in Blogmas this year!

I am very excited to join other bloggers in sharing a blog post daily from December 1st until Christmas Day. Christmas is my favorite time of the year and I look forward to sharing more posts talking about what I am doing during the Christmas season. I will be starting some Christmas knitting projects in December and will be posting entries on Christmas related topics and other topics that come to mind. I did not participate in Blogmas last year, but I did participate in National Blog Posting Month (NaBloPoMo) last year which takes place in November. For NaBloPoMo, I joined along with other bloggers in posting everyday for the month of November. I really enjoyed coming up with new ideas for posts for the entire month and it challenged me to think of new ideas and things to share on my blog. You can read my posts from last year here. I also liked to see what other bloggers posted on their blogs and enjoyed the community we created in a short time. I like these blog posting events and look forward to December when Blogmas begins.

Blogmas is coming...who else is excited?

Knitting Updates and Reading on

Hello Friends,

I hope you are doing well. I have been working on knitting the scarf made with Juniper Moon Farm yarn. I frogged the last scarf that I started knitting in stockinette and had shared in the last post. I realized that knitting a scarf in stockinette was not a great idea since the sides were curling inward and it was looking less scarf like and more like a tube. I decided to go to my tried and true ribbed stitch I have enjoyed knitting scarves in this pattern over the years for how it looks when it is done and its simplicity.  This stitch pattern also helps in avoiding the knitting from curling and there are some other patterns that are good for knitting scarves and help in avoiding the curling as well such as seed stitch and knitting in garter stitch.

I have started reading Girl, Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis and I am loving it. I like the way she encourages the reader to start holding themselves accountable and keep promises to themselves. I feel like this book was something I needed right now as I am trying to push myself more to do the things I decide to do or should do to live a happier and healthier life. She includes stories about her own struggles as well and she creates a space of non judgment because she has been through a lot herself. I am looking forward to reading more of this book and what lessons it teaches me.

I am getting excited for Christmas now and have done the tradition of going to my parents house last weekend to decorate their tree and welcome the holiday season by drinking Almond nog and eating cookies and fruit cake. I am going to start decorating our apartment this weekend and I look forward to making it more festive in here. I also look forward to picking out our real tree to put up and decorate in December.

Thank you for stopping by the blog today. I hope you are having a good week so far. I am happy it is Thursday tomorrow and that we are almost at the weekend!

Have a wonderful day

Weekend Knitting

Hello Friends,

I hope you are doing well. Yesterday my boyfriend, my parents and I went over to my boyfriend's mom's place. My parents met his mom for the first time and it was so nice all being together and them getting to know each other. My boyfriend and I have been talking about getting engaged soon,so it is a nice time for them to meet. Today my boyfriend and I went downtown to get some things he needed and then we went by the library to get a book. The one I picked up is called Shrewed: A Wry and Closely Observed Look at the Lives of Women and Girls by Elizabeth Renzetti. It looks interesting, it is a book of essays she has written on various topics relating to feminism. I am looking forward to reading it.

This weekend has been so nice. It was mostly spent reading, knitting, seeing family, and relaxing at home. It is so nice to have weekends like this when I can spend the day however I like and get some things accomplished at home. I feel more refreshed to start the week off if I have a Sunday where I have lots of time to prepare and plan for the week as well. I will be writing my meal plan and writing in my planner tonight. I want to plan out how I will use my time this week to be more productive in getting things done and accomplishing my goals.

Yesterday I cast on to start knitting a new scarf with the  yarn Juniper Moon Farm Cumulus Dappled in the colorway 'On the Rocks'. It is such a soft yarn and It has been so nice to work with. Last weekend I also bought some new wooden needles at Romni Wools pictured below. They are made by Brittany. Both the needles and the yarn are so light and delicate, so when I am knitting with both together it so light, like I am not holding anything much at all.

I cast on 30 stitches and am using size US 9 - 5 mm needles. I will try to knit the scarf with one skein of the yarn since I only purchased one. We will see how long it becomes. If it is shorter I might sew up the ends and turn it into a cowl. I am not using a pattern for the scarf and am simply knitting in stockinette stitch, so knit the front side and then purl the back side the whole scarf.

I received the hedgehog pin pictured below for my birthday from my boyfriend's step mom and dad for my birthday. It is from The Clever Clove. I love it, it is so adorable and it fits in so well beside the other knit pin I got from SeaandLake. The Clever Clove is currently on a break for a maternity leave and SeaandLake is not in business anymore.

Thank you for stopping by! How was your weekend?

I will be posting again with some more updates on knitting and reading progress this week, so I will talk to you again soon!

Have a great day!

Some Yarn Shopping, Knitting Plans, and Reading On

Hello Friends,

On Saturday I went shopping with my sister at Romni Wools in Toronto. There were so many gorgeous skeins of yarn to choose from. I ended up buying two skeins of yarn. They were the two that caught my eye right away and I recalled from my last visit there that if yarn speaks to me or I love the colors, to just carry it around with me because I am likely to go back and search for them later. Of course I ended up buying both after I carried them around for awhile.

Fleece Artist and Juniper Moon Farm yarn
The first yarn skein I will tell you about is by Fleece Artist in the colorway Blue Face Leichester. It is mostly beige in color with pops of purple and gray. I tend to be drawn to yarns like this at Romni. Last time I bought Manos Del Uruguay Allegria yarn in the colorway 'Happy' because I fell for the white yarn with spots of vibrant colors.

The second skein I bought was by Juniper Moon Farm Cumulus Dappled in the colorway 'On the Rocks'. It is a super soft yarn and I had ideas of knitting a really soft and comfy cowl with it. I love the color of blue and that it is both blue and white and I am looking forward to seeing how it looks in a project.

For the Juniper Moon Farm yarn I am thinking of making a cowl and for the Fleece Artist yarn I am thinking of making a hat. I will be looking up patterns which suit the yarn soon. I also recently purchased some yarn from Michaels to start knitting a gift for my mom. She asked me to knit her some fingerless mittens which I will share with you once I am finished them after Christmas. The fingerless mitts are such fun projects to knit up and I am glad to get another chance to make some as a gift. I will also be working on sewing the seams of the Wool and the Gang Farrah Billie Jean top I knitting the pieces for in the Summer.

In reading, I have finished reading Suprise Me by Sophie Kinsella. For some reason I couldn't really get too interested in reading this book. It did not grab me from the start and I thought that my interest in the book might change as time went on but it just didn't. I think it is a nice, light read and funny at times, but I was hoping for a bit more out of it and it delve more into fun little things about marriage and how they had fun together trying to make their marriage work but it was mostly just the protagonist wondering what her husband was up to and being suspicious which was kind of negative. I am really looking forward to reading Girl Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis. I received it for my birthday in October and have been excited to start reading it!
