Scarf Knitting Progress and Reading On

Hello Friends,

I hope you are doing well. I have started getting into the Christmas spirit even more now. This year I thought about Christmas a lot more and I was getting excited way earlier (September too early?). I am so happy that it is now the Christmas season. I have already gone to a Christmas parade, decorated my parent's tree, and gone to our annual Christmas shopping at a mall to get ideas and start shopping together. Last weekend we put up our Christmas tree and I have decorated our tree. I have also bought decorations and ornaments. I will share all this with you next week for Blogmas I can't wait for Blogmas, it is only 2 days away now! It is on a Sunday which is the perfect day for the start of it because it is not a work day and I can get into the spirit and work on blogging and getting ready for a busy and fun month of posts. If you are also participating are you ready for Blogmas? Leave links to your blogs below and I be sure to visit your blogs this holiday season.

I have still been knitting the candy cane scarf. I found the pattern on Ravelry by Kristen Retigg. I used US 9 knitting needles and used Red Heart Supersaver yarn in white and red to knit up the scarf.

Modeling the scarf in progress

I haven't knitted more of the shawl because I have been busy knitting the candy cane scarf so I can finish it and enjoy wearing it during the Christmas season. I am really looking forward to getting back to it soon. I am using size US 6, 4mm circular needles and the yarn I am using is Lion Brand Vanna's Choice in the color of dusty green.

I am still reading Better than Before by Gretchen Rubin. I am loving how she focuses on the main habits that we should work on and and that improve lots of aspects of our lives.  Some important ones are getting more sleep, moving more, healthy eating and drinking, and living more cluttered-free. I have been recently working on getting more sleep and going to bed earlier in order to get more sleep during the week.

Blogmas Day 11: Knitting, Reading, and Big News

Hello Friends,

I hope you are doing well. I have been enjoying blogmas, it has been fun coming up with ideas to share and I am thinking ahead of things I can post about. I have finished the scarf I have been knitting using the Juniper Moon Farms yarn. I made it into an infinity scarf after all. I was on the fence about whether to just leave it as a regular scarf or to connect the ends, then this morning I made the decision because I love the look of infinity scarves and also thought it would look better since it is a short scarf. I am looking forward to wearing it now that it is finished.

I started knitting a gift for my mom last night and I am hoping to knit it up fast since Christmas is quickly approaching. I will also be starting to knit the Santa Gnome ornament and work on some other crafty Christmas projects soon that I will share with you.

I am still reading Girl, Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis. I will be done reading it very soon and I am looking forward to diving into reading The Inner Life of Animals by Peter Wohlleben. It looks very interesting and I hope that I learn a lot from it and it makes me think about how animals have their own world and ways in communicating with each other.

So for the big news I was talking about in the title... I wanted to let you all know that I got engaged! It happened a couple of weeks ago and I am so happy that I can share the good news on my blog now that our all of our family and friends know.

He popped the question one evening when I came home from work on a Monday night. He had music playing, candles lit, and the table was set for dinner. He said some very sweet things that made me teary eyed and then asked me to marry him. Of course I said yes! We had shopped for the ring a couple of weeks before at Michael Hill and I chose one I loved. It was good for us because we had been talking about it for quite awhile so we both knew it was coming so shopping for it did not give away any surprise.

Thank you all for visiting my blog for blogmas day 11 to read about our big news and updates on my knitting and reading. If you have a blogmas post you would like me to read please let me know in the comments below and also please let me know in the comments what you are working on and reading this week!

Have a great day

Eyelet Moss stitch cowl

Hello Friends,

How are you today?  this morning I went for a jog with my sister we are preparing for another Color me Rad run that is happening in July so we are working on our training.  I am also looking forward to a camping trip with my family and my boyfriend and my sister's boyfriend also happening in July.

I wanted to share some photos of the finished cowl I have been working on! this cowl is smaller than my other scarf projects and it is definitely a lighter option than the chunky infinity scarves I knitted for the colder winter weather.  I used the eyelet moss stitch to knit it up which I will post below the stitch is a simple pattern and I enjoyed using it to knit up the cowl.  I like the stitch because it also creates holes in the scarf that make the cowl more light and airy.  I knitted the cowl using two size 13 US needles and just bound off and weaved the end and beginning of the scarf together to form the round cowl.  The scarf was 24 inches long when bound off.  This length worked for me because I can easily get it over my head and it fits comfortably around my neck.  If you are deciding to do this same pattern and project make sure it is long enough for your own measurements. :)

Pattern used:  Eyelet moss stitch
pattern used from blog: knitting galore

Row 1: edge st, * p1, k1; repeat from * to last 2 sts, p1, edge st
Row 2: edge st, p1, * sl1pwyf, p1; repeat from * to last st, edge st
Row 3: edge st, * k1, p1; repeat from * to last 2 sts, k1, edge st
Row 4: edge st, sl1pwyf, * p1, sl1pwyf; repeat from * to last st, edge st
Repeat rows 1 to 4
(edge stitch can be whatever you choose.  I chose to just do a knit stitch to keep it simple)

Thank you as always for visiting! hope to see you again soon :)
Take care,

Lisa :)

Completed the Green Infinity Scarf!

Hello Friends,

This morning I finished the green infinity scarf I have been working on for a friend.  I was knitting during the Winter Olympics this morning and finally knitted the last row to complete the scarf to the length I wanted.  I loved working with this soft wool in the dark green color.   I used size 13 needles with Dark Green Bernat Softee Chunky wool. I cast on 34 stitches and used the knit two, purl two pattern and when I turned my work, I knitted the knits and purled the purls for a length of 77 inches. Then I connected the ends together by weaving the wool from the bind off between the two ends of the scarf.

Thank you for visiting my blog and I hope you have a great day!
Take care,
Lisa

Green infinity scarf done!

Hello friends,

I have completed yet another infinity scarf ! my cousin requested one like the one I had just completed only in green instead,  I quickly got to work buying three balls of "Thick and quick" Lion Brand wool and knitting it up as fast as I could.  I enjoyed the process and I also found it amazing that I could complete a scarf in a week! (that's what passion and a deadline will do for you!) so here it is, completed and I am modeling in the photo.  I can't wait until she receives it to see her reaction :)

Take care!

Lisa :)

"thick and quick" Infinity scarf done and a hat on the horizon..

Hello friends!

I am so sorry for my lack of posting I have been busy lately.  I have been working on knitting a scarf though! :)   I finished an infinity scarf for my sister today! and I am so excited to share the photos of it's completion with you!

I will be knitting some mittens and a hat with the wool below!  it is the same texture as the scarf I just completed.  It is Lion Brand Wool-Ease "Thick and Easy".  I have started to really enjoy knitting with thicker wool, it feels so soft and knits up really fast! which is always a plus ;)

I bought the pillow below from Bed Bath and Beyond.  I thought some of you would appreciate how cute the pom poms are! I just love this pillow its so cute :)

Have a great rest of your weekend everyone! and thank you for your continued support !

Scarf is done and let the Christmas season begin!

Hello Friends,

HAPPY DECEMBER 1ST!  I am so happy that it is finally December and the real celebrating for Christmas begins!
I finished the scarf by sewing the buttons onto the pockets, here’s a picture below.   I used this amazing video from Jenny T. On tips on how to sew a button tightly.  Here’s the video.  So now I just have to get my  sister to have some free time to model it!  She is really busy with exams lately and assignments for University.  Tis the season!

Completed Scarf! to keep my sister warm for the winter

I had a lot of fun this week decorating the classroom for Christmas at work.  I decorated the door with a Santa Clause that I drew (I will be posting this when it is all done).  I put some garland up, next week I will be hanging up snowflakes to decorate as well.  The kids love those because they ask to be lifted up to touch whatever is hanging from the ceiling.  I absolutely love this time of the year with working in a daycare! We also have the Christmas open house to plan when all the parents and children come into the classroom and we do some activities and have some good food and have music and singing.  A time to spend time together and the parents and teachers can mingle. I bought this “Santa’s helper” headband for the occasion from Michaels (http://canada.michaels.com/on/demandware.store/Sites-MichaelsCanada-Site/default/Home-Show), can’t wait to wear it on the special day!

Looking festive I must say.
Today I am going with Leeanna (elle-tea) to the One of a kind show in Toronto.  I am Looking forward to seeing all the fun crafts that professional crafters have made for the holidays.  YAY!

 Have a wonderful Saturday!
I will post again tomorrow with a new DIY!
