One of A Kind Craft Show

Hello Friends,

I hope you are doing well. Today I went to the One of a Kind Craft Show in Toronto with my mom and sister. The show features many talented artisans selling their handmade pieces and many artisans  return year after year. It has become a tradition for my mom, sister and I to go together for the Christmas show and we always have a great time You can find out more about the show here on their website.

I did not buy anything from the craft show today. I saw a lot of wonderful things and enjoyed window shopping. My sister bought a lovely calendar and my mom bought some fudge. There were a couple of knitters who had booths at the show which was nice to see. I had a wonderful time and can't wait to go back next year! There are always new things to look at when we go each year.

Gorgeous trees and decor at the show

As a promotion these pop-up trucks were appearing around Toronto leading up to the craft show. They displayed some of the items that would be available for sale at the show. I spotted one of these trucks one day in Toronto.

Inside the truck there were lots of fun things to see

Fall Craft Show, Knitting Progress, and Reading On

Hello Friends,

I hope you are doing well. I had a wonderful weekend, spending time with my family and my boyfriend's family. Yesterday, I went to the Milton Farm Craft Show that they put on every year. There were so many wonderful things to look at and this year I bought a couple lovely things. I bought a ceramic berry bowl for my boyfriend's stepmother for her birthday. I also purchased some beautiful, soft alpaca sock yarn from Alpaca Time. I am so excited to get started on knitting socks with this yarn. My sister who crochets, also purchased some yarn to crochet a hat. It was an exciting find for us. I loved our trip there this year and looking forward to going to more upcoming craft fairs in the Winter hopefully.

Me with some craft show finds

In knitting, I have been working on knitting up the first stocking as part of the project for this Christmas to have handknit stockings for my boyfriend and I. I am using the Jumbo Christmas Stockings pattern on Ravelry. It is a fun, fast knit and I love working with big, chunky needles and thick yarn around this time of the year when it is getting a bit cooler. I am liking the way the stocking is looking so far, except I added an extra row in by accident right after working on the gusset but I think it isn't too noticeable.

The sweater is still in a standstill and I must work on taking the seam out on the left sleeve and redoing it. I definitely want my next sweater not to include sewing pieces together at the end as many people have said it is more enjoyable that way.

I am still reading the book Love the Wine You're With by Kim Gruenenfelder. I am liking it but haven't been setting aside time to read due to being distracted by school starting up again and different things. I will try to read a little bit each day so I can enjoy the book. I have also still been reading The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo. I am on the chapter about paper and have been going through paper of mine and find that the book is helping so much to help me toss more things than I have before because we really hold onto things we don't need thinking we'll read it one day when we never do. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the book and working through all of the items and having less stuff around.

Craft Fair Treasures

Hello Friends!

This afternoon I went to a local craft fair to see what neat things were for sale this holiday.  It has become a tradition in our family to go to craft fairs before Halloween and Christmas.  I love looking at what everyone is working on and if I could get any ideas for my own crafting.  I took some photos of the crafts I bought today and posted them below, I hope you enjoy looking through!

I bought a Christmas tree made from couch fabric, a rocking horse ornament made out of wood, a Believe sign made from wood, coasters made from towels, and a vintage style heart made from fabric.

I was drawn right away to this tree when I stepped into a booth at the craft fair.  I noticed another one first, then decided on this pattern.  When I went to buy it I asked the lady if she made it, she said yes and she used couch fabric to make it. It's amazing what can be made out of scraps of fabric we do not need anymore.

A sweet rocking horse ornament.  I could not resist buying it, there is a certian charm about this horse.  I love that the  bow color matches the bottom of the horse.

I love this little sign.  There were many of them some saying "peace", "merry and bright", "warm winter wishes", but this one "Believe" was perfect because it can hang all year round.  It is perfect for Christmas but also special when you need that extra bit of hope.

These little coasters are adorable. I just knew I had to scoop them up! they were also the last ones.  I felt bad a lady in front of me asked where I got them and I showed her the basket but there were none left.  But at least we chatted for awhile and I met a new face.

There is something about this heart that spoke to me.  I love the vintage appeal it has and the length of the heart.  It's not a small and chubby heart as usual, but a long and skinny heart. It is very soft as well I can use it in a Christmas basket.
Sorry I did not get the names of the stalls where I bought these items but I'm sure there are some ideas on Pinterest or other websites on how to make them or buy something similar :) Happy crafting!

One of a Kind Show

Hello,

On Saturday, March 31st, 2012 I went to the "One of a Kind" spring show that is held in Toronto.  It was really interesting.  I have been going for about 4 years now and really enjoy looking at the handmade pieces.  The handmade crafts are said to be one of a kind, everything is original and handmade.  As a knitter I can really appreciate the amound of work it takes to put handmade piece together and I really admire all the talent that I saw that day.  I did not buy anything this time around but in previous years I bought a few monster related items like the collin plush monster and a monster keychain.
I took some photos at the show.  I was not allowed to take photos of any of the handmade items sadly and got caught taking photos at the main display section (oops!) Here is what I managed to get for you:

The display in the middle of the exhibition
to show off the most important pieces.

Displaying some of the hats, bags available at the different booths.

Thank you for visiting!  I had a great time and I am glad that I could share a bit of the experience with you.  Have any of you been to the one of a kind show? and what did you buy this year or in other years?

Today...

Hey Bloggers! <3

I worked more on my baby blanket, it's 7 inches wide now. I am now stqrting on the second ball of yarn because I am done the first, it was 105 yard ball of wool.
I went to a fall craft fair yesterday with the family. It was sooo cute. I picked up a few things for my room for the Autumn season. It really inspires you to create after visiting one of these fairs. Gets you in the spirit to knit, sew, glue etc. Hope everyone is having a great Sunday afternoon, getting refreshed for the week ahead.
I am currently looking for a part time job in retail, not sure where quite yet, I had graduated from college and decided I would like to pursue further education so at the moment its just deciding time and come January I will apply.
so I am going out for some chinese food soon with my sister, she's finishing work at 5 so we were going to go out afterwards. I get to practice using chopsticks once again! (I'm useless with chopsticks haha.)
bye for now!!
much love,
Lisa ♥
